SF Ballet Program 5 - On a Theme of Paganini

"The sweet innocence that made her "Giselle" heartbreaking proves magical again here, as Kochetkova kisses Davit Karapetyan's forehead and curls up so tiny inside his burly arms." San Francisco Chronicle

Hi Maria,

Such a disappointment(!) to see the cast change this evening at the ballet as I was hoping to see you dance to the Paganini variations; however it was a surprise and real pleasure to meet you in the audience and have a few minutes to talk ballet.

Though I liked the partnering in the pas de deux this evening I tried to imagine what kind of life you would bring to Variations 16 through 18... that part of the piece appeared to me as a journey from darkness to bright moonlight... the quivering strings with winds, solo violin and piano playing through the minor key leading to the emotional apogee that one hears/sees/feels when we are led to the 18th variation and the partners unite. It's magical.
